Bilt just announced its September Rent Day promo, and this one's worth a look if you've got points sitting in your Bilt Mastercard account and Virgin Atlantic on your radar. On September 1st only, Bilt members can transfer points to Virgin Atlantic/Virgin Red with a bonus of 25% to 100%, depending on your Bilt status tier.

Here's how the tiers break down:

  • Blue members: 25% bonus
  • Silver members: 35% bonus
  • Gold members: 45% bonus
  • Platinum members: 75% bonus
  • Platinum members who buy up with $200 Bilt Cash: 100% bonus

That $200 buy-up price is worth flagging. It's crept up steadily this year, from $75 to $135 to $150, and now $200, the same cost as Bilt's separate point accelerator. If you're already Platinum, spending $200 to jump from 75% to 100% can pencil out nicely on a big transfer. If you're Blue or Silver, though, paying $200 just to nudge your bonus up by 10 percentage points usually isn't worth it unless you're specifically chasing Virgin Points for something you've already got booked or in mind.

Bonus transfers are capped at 150,000 Bilt points, and cardholders will also earn 2x on Rent Day purchases, up to 1,000 bonus points. If you're new to the program, our complete guide to Bilt Rewards breaks down how the points system, rent payments, and status tiers work.

Should you transfer? Virgin Points aren't hard to come by. Amex and Chase run 30-40% transfer bonuses to Virgin fairly regularly throughout the year, so a 100% bonus that requires Platinum status and a cash outlay isn't the slam dunk it might look like at first glance. If you already have a redemption in mind, this is a great day to top off your balance. If you're transferring speculatively, you might get a similar or better bonus later without paying $200 for the privilege.

Virgin Points shine for US-to-UK economy awards starting around 6,000 points one-way, business class from roughly 29,000 points, and sweet spots on partners like Air France, KLM, and ANA.

Bottom line: this promo is solid for Platinum members with a redemption already in mind. Everyone else should do the math before paying for a buy-up. Don't have the Bilt card yet? Check current Bilt Mastercard offers to see if it fits your rent payment strategy.
